Tokyo Marathon Tokyo
Launched in 2007, the Tokyo Marathon became the sixth World Marathon Major, and the first in Asia, with its 2013 edition. Its flat streets make it a fast race: the men's course record is 2:02:16 (2024) and the women's is 2:14:29 (2026).

What it’s like
The route leaves Shinjuku from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and finishes at the Wadakura-Gate intersection near Tokyo Station, touring Nihombashi, Kuramae, Monzen-nakacho, Ginza and Shiba with several out-and-back legs and 180-degree turnarounds. Most of its roughly 100 m of descent comes in the first 5 km; after that it is close to flat, with only small bridge rises. Early March mornings are usually cool: the 2026 race-time forecast was 8-12 °C. Crowds line the whole course, though they are often described as quieter than at other Majors. The 7-hour limit applies to the general field.

General Entry lottery
Most places are allocated by random draw when applications exceed capacity; it is not first-come, first-served. For 2027 the application window was 14-28 August 2026, results came out on 18 September 2026 and selected runners pay by 30 September. The fee is ¥19,800 for domestic and US$230 for overseas runners, and runners must be 19 or older on race day.

Donation and charity runner entry
About 5,000 places are reserved for runners who donate through the race's charity programme. For 2027 applications ran from 24 June to 9 July 2026.
- Elite
RUN as ONE semi-elite (overseas)
Overseas runners with a gun time under 2:22:00 (men) or 2:50:00 (women), set at a World Athletics Label road race between July 2024 and June 2026, could apply from 31 July to 13 August 2026. There are 25 places per gender, filled fastest-first.
- Other
ONE TOKYO membership entry
Members of the race's ONE TOKYO club get separate entry pools, with 3,000 places for Premium (domestic) members and 3,000 for Global (overseas) members; for 2027 both windows ran from 31 July to 13 August 2026.
Registration
The different entry windows open between late June and August for the following March. For 2027, charity entry ran 24 June-9 July, RUN as ONE and ONE TOKYO entry 31 July-13 August, and the general lottery 14-28 August 2026, with lottery results on 18 September 2026.
